Once Birthday Bash is Over Pretenders to Throne Likely to Stop Pretending
When the last of the centennial fireworks explode over Alberta tonight, the temporary ceasefire between Premier Ralph Klein and his would-be successors will expire.
In recent days, a number of the six active leadership campaigns have indicated that the summer of relative civility and calm is likely to end and that pressure will begin to be applied directly on Klein to vacate the premier’s office.
Sources in at least three of the camps said they have approached Labour Day as a target date for relaunching campaigns that were quelled in April, when an annoyed Klein told them to stand down at the party convention.
