Inspired Leadership: Creating the Condtions

Printable

The essence of a great leader is inspiration. Employees everywhere yearn to be inspired by their leader. Yet, we cannot be an inspired leader until we become inspired ourselves. Our capacity to inspire others depends on our own sense of meaning, purpose and fulfillment. When we are truly on purpose in our own lives, the energy that we experience inspires both ourselves and others.

Keeping employees engaged and committed in the 21st century, means that leaders must be able to create organizational cultures that foster not only performance but also inspiration. Today, leadership has a lot more to do with inspiration and vision than a set of competencies or techniques. Inspired leaders are leaders of people, not process. They are influencers of employees, not tasks. They inspire others through their courage, passion, and authenticity; not through orders and direction.

This experiential workshop is for supervisors, managers, leaders and aspiring leaders who want to create something extraordinary, achieve uncommon levels of success, and leave a legacy. We will explore the essence of leadership today and what it takes to become an inspired leader. Through the use of contemporary ideas, personal reflection and deeper conversation within small groups, you will have an opportunity to:

 Identify at least three ways the nature of work has changed
 Contrast what leaders identify as the hallmark a good leader with what employees identify
 Explore three strategies leaders use to become more inspired themselves
 Describe the four essential practices of inspired leaders
 Create a plan to become an inspired leader

Instructor

Val Kinjerski, MSW, PhD, RSW is a leader and expert on the topic of Spirit at Work. Her passion for spirit at work builds on a long standing concern about stress and burnout in social work. Prior to making spirit at work her life’s work, Val worked in social service for 18 years in positions ranging from front-line to senior management so she appreciates the many challenges faced by social work leaders today.

Val’s research is published in management, leadership, health care, and career journals and presented at national and international conferences. Having developed the first scientific process to actually measure spirit at work, Val has shown that applying these strategies not only increases spirit at work, but job satisfaction, commitment, teamwork and morale. And absenteeism and turnover go down.

An inspirational speaker, facilitator and consultant, Dr. Kinjerski helps organizations increase employee satisfaction and retention and boost productivity by reigniting employees love for their work. Val has shown that spirit at work is not a pipe dream or the result of lucky circumstances. It is available to anyone; it can and should be fostered. She is the author of Rethinking Your Work: Getting to the Heart of What Matters and Rethinking Your Work Guidebook: How to Get to the Heart of What Matters.
