CASW Distinguished Service Award

The CASW National Social Work Week Distinguished Service Award is given by the Canadian Association of Social Workers (CASW) on the occasion of the National Social Work Week, to an individual or group of individuals selected from their membership by each CASW member organization. The criterion for nominations is established by the provincial organization. CASW requirements are:

  1. that the nominee be a member or a working group of members in good standing with the provincial organization;
  2. that the individual or group of individuals have served as a member of the council of the provincial organization or have acted in a position of responsibility for the organization.
In addition to the CASW requirements, the Alberta criterion are:
  1. that the nominee has been a strong advocate for the profession whose activities have contributed toward public understanding of the social work profession;
  2. that the individual or group of individuals have represented the profession of social work in an exemplary manner.
Procedure for the Award:
  1. In October of each year, member organizations will be invited to submit the name of its nominee or group of nominees including photograph and biographical sketch in the form of an article (150 words approximately) for publication in The Social Worker/Le travailleur social. Deadline for submission is December 15.
  2. The award certificates will be signed by the CASW President and Executive Director.
  3. The certificates will be framed by the CASW and mailed to member organizations prior to the commencement of National Social Work Week.
  4. Recipients should be advised of their award during National Social Work Week.
  5. Member organizations are encouraged to publicize the presentation of the certificate within their newsletter and newspapers throughout the province as a means of honouring the individual/group recipient and promoting the profession.
