A number of registered social workers have shown an interest in this burgeoning field of social work and receive the minutes. A core group faithfully attends. Popular information sessions are alternated with business meetings, which always include a lively peer support and development segment. Information sessions included: The Hope Foundation on hope and well-being, Credit Counselling Services of Alberta on seniors’ bankruptcies, and Central Assessment and Placement Services of Capital Health Authority on ‘Pathways’ – an electronic matching system for clients and continuing-care facilities.

Members made presentations to community groups including a talk on continuing-care housing options at Northgate Seniors Centre. They also attended numerous information sessions including: Dr. Alan Wofelt on grief and loss, Alberta Seniors Services workshop, Alberta Palliative Care conference, ACSW annual conference, the national social work conference in Saskatoon, Dr. Richard Shillington in Calgary on pensions, policies and payouts, Friends of Medicare annual general meeting, access and privacy conference, and the Public Guardian and Public Trustees presentations in Edmonton. The committee also has representation on the Best Practices Committee on the Long Term Care Council – Capital Health Authority.
