AMERICAS

1. Costa Rica: Micro-finance

Social workers, with our emphasis on poverty, are valuable in anti-poverty programs. Learn how "banking on the poor" works and has transformed the lives of the world's women & the poor. Group skills translate well to micro-finance groups as you help problem solve snags & build confidence.

2. Costa Rica: Learn to Lead by Laughing

This is one of the best directors I have ever seen; a great place to learn organizational leadership skills.

3. Peru's Sacred Valley: Medical Social Work

Work in a local medical clinic which serves both town and surrounding remote villages. Your responsibilities will depend on your skills. Medical director welcomes social workers. Spanish & Quechua are both helpful. Tutoring in both languages available.

4. Bolivia: "project cycles" in international development

Our director here has considerable experience with international development organizations. He knows the needs of his community, then writes the grants for each project. Bolivia is high, dry and poor. See and learn how this director helps his people.

These are volunteer positions. (But we also help people into international careers.) Applications accepted on a rolling basis. No end date.
