Retired Social Workers
Currently there is one active group in the province. Edmonton members and former members, many not fully retired, gather on a bi-monthly basis to enjoy the opportunity to learn what is new in the profession and stay in touch with colleagues and friends. The meetings usually include a topical speaker and lunch. Once a year a social event is held at the Faculty Club.
Ernest Schlesinger, as chair, along with a planning sub-committee, formulates the meeting content. They endeavour to have a top-notch speaker at each meeting. In the past two years another sub-committee has been active in developing the framework for ACSW’s electronic Wall of Recognition.
Other groups around the province may start up over time. The involvement of volunteers is required to make such interest groups function. Several events have been held for retired and semi-retired social workers in Calgary but an active group has yet to form.
