Slave Lake Social Work Week

In honour of Social Work week, area coordinators, Gail Ungstad and Sylvia Pratt, approached the Mayor and Town Council to proclaim March 13-19, 2010 Social Work Week in Slave Lake. It was a wonderful opportunity to heighten the awareness of the valuable services provided by local social workers and to draw attention to the values of social justice and equality upheld by the social work profession.

On March 15, Lori Sigurdson from the ACSW delivered a workshop on the ACSW Social Policy Framework to a group of local social workers. There was a luncheon afterwards where a beautiful cake, representing the theme of this year’s conference, Social Workers as Nation Builders: Speaking Truth to Power was shared.(Pictures attached.) That afternoon, Lori presented to the students in the Northern Lakes College Social Work program on the ACSW, benefits of membership, and current issues.

Events throughout the week provided excellent learning opportunities and a chance to showcase our wonderful profession.  Happy Social Work Week to all!
